First Trimester Survival Tips

The first trimester... whew. It's exciting, it's emotional, and if we're being real, it's downright exhausting. Those first few months can be a rollercoaster of nausea, cravings, fatigue, and so many what is even happening to me moments.

If you're in the thick of it right now, just know you are not alone. I've been there too, and today I’m sharing the simple (realistic!) things that helped me survive the first trimester without totally losing my mind. Let’s get into it!

Sleep Is Your Best Friend

If your body is begging you to slow down, listen to it. Growing a human is exhausting work, even when you can’t see a bump yet! Nap when you can, go to bed early, and sleep late if you’re able, and most importantly, don’t feel guilty about it. Everything else can wait.

Keep Snacks Everywhere

One thing I learned fast: an empty stomach = next-level nausea. I kept snacks everywhere. In my nightstand, my purse, even the car. Crackers, granola bars, trail mix... anything easy to grab. Little bites throughout the day kept me feeling (somewhat) human.

Forget "Normal" Just Do What Works

One minute you’re craving salads, and the next minute the thought of lettuce makes you gag. Welcome to the first trimester! Some days you’ll eat well, some days you’ll survive on plain bagels. That’s okay. Nourish yourself however you can right now. Judgment-free!

Stay Hydrated, Your Way

Water and I had a complicated relationship during the first trimester. If plain water isn't working for you, try adding lemon, drinking it ice-cold, sipping electrolyte drinks, or even munching on popsicles. The goal is simple: get fluids in, however you can.

Get Comfy (And Stay Comfy)

That first-trimester bloat is no joke. Around week 7, I gave up on squeezing into my normal jeans and embraced stretchy leggings and oversized tees. Comfort > fashion, every time. Trust me,  you'll thank yourself later.

Share Your News When You’re Ready

There's no right or wrong time to tell people you’re pregnant. Share when it feels right for you whether that’s at 6 weeks, 12 weeks, or whenever you’re comfortable. Your journey is yours alone, and you don’t owe anyone an explanation.

Lower the Bar (And Then Lower It Again)

Some days you’ll have bursts of energy, other days, brushing your teeth might feel like an Olympic event. That’s normal. Celebrate the small wins and give yourself permission to not be superwoman right now. Rest is part of the work you're doing.

Give Yourself All the Grace

First trimester emotions are wild. You might cry, laugh, nap, snack, and cry again all within the same hour. That’s pregnancy, baby! Be gentle with yourself. This is a season of incredible change, and you’re doing the most important job in the world.

______

The first trimester can feel endless while you’re in it, but I promise, it will pass. You are stronger than you know, and you're doing something absolutely amazing even on the days that feel messy and hard.

Snuggle up, grab your snacks, and take it one day (or hour!) at a time. You’ve got this, momma!  And if you ever need a little extra encouragement, just know I'm always cheering for you!
